He who has not in the sunny days made the divine promises his own has no comforts to sustain him when trouble comes. But he who has pondered the Scriptures, and laid up in memory the precious truths and assurances, when called to pass through affliction has light in his dwelling. Words of promise in which he had never before seen any special comfort shine out now like stars when the sun has gone down; or, like lamps above his head, unnoted before, they pour their soft beams upon his soul. This is a provision all of us should make in youth and health and happiness for the dark days that will surely come.
